With a planned area of 403 mu (26.87 ha.), the Dongting Lake Milu Park is home to 25 milu deer as of 2025. By restoring over 30 species of native wetland vegetation including reeds and sedges, the park has established a dynamic habitat system characterized by "flooded in summer and dry in winter." The park features five functional zones: a wetland ecological science popularization zone, a milu breeding and living zone, a science education and research experience zone, a milu rescue and observation zone, as well as a milu release and adaptation zone. This creates a wetland animal paradise integrating scientific research, education, wildlife conservation, and sightseeing, enabling visitors to interact with milu deer in a tangible and accessible way, thereby promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
The park has been honored with multiple titles, including "National Ecological Civilization Education Base," "Hunan Province First-Class Study Tour Base," Hunan Provincial Youth Education Base, and "Yueyang Municipal Study Tour and Education Base."
